Uganda has denied having an active Ebola outbreak, saying a woman’s passage through its territory does not establish where she contracted the infection later confirmed in Nigeria.
Gatekeepers News reports that Uganda’s Ministry of Health said investigators needed the patient’s full travel itinerary and clinical history to determine the likely source.
“The location of exposure remains under investigation,” the ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
It added that screening and surveillance at entry points were being strengthened following Nigeria’s announcement. Uganda previously recorded Ebola infections in 2026 but subsequently declared that outbreak over.
Nigeria’s Health Minister Muhammad Ali Pate confirmed the Abuja case on Tuesday, saying the woman had recently travelled through East Africa, including Uganda.
She received treatment at a private hospital before tests confirmed Ebola and was subsequently placed in isolation.
Nigerian authorities identified 44 contacts for tracing and strengthened surveillance at entry points as part of containment efforts.
Pate urged health facilities to remain alert and asked the public to cooperate with health officials.
