Federal Government has disclosed that it plans to present the 2027 budget to the National Assembly before the end of 2026.

Gatekeepers News reports that Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning, Doris Uzoka-Anite, disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

“We are working on the budget for 2027, and the intention is to present it before the end of the year,” the minister said.

The planned presentation is expected to enable the National Assembly to begin consideration of the proposed spending plan ahead of the 2027 fiscal year.

The development follows preparations by the Budget Office of the Federation, which issued a personnel costs budget call circular dated September 4, 2026, directing ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) to submit their personnel cost proposals for the 2027 budget alongside their establishment Acts.

The circular introduced stricter requirements for agencies seeking personnel cost allocations, including provisions barring agencies not captured on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) or the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) from receiving personnel cost provisions in the 2027 budget.

The measures followed concerns over the inclusion of fictitious agencies in government budget documents, which prompted renewed scrutiny of public spending and the verification of government institutions.

The proposed 2027 budget will set out the Federal Government’s revenue projections, expenditure plans, capital projects and financing requirements for the coming year.

However, the minister did not disclose the proposed budget size or provide further details on the spending priorities and economic assumptions underpinning the estimates.

The planned presentation comes amid ongoing concerns about budget implementation, revenue generation and the financing of capital projects. The National Assembly and the executive have previously debated delays in implementing capital components of earlier budgets and the need to improve fiscal planning.

Further details of the 2027 budget are expected to emerge as the government progresses with the preparation of its estimates.
