All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State has insisted that Governor Hope Uzodimma remains its candidate for Imo West Senatorial District in the 2027 elections, despite a Federal High Court ruling recognising former governor Rochas Okorocha as the party’s candidate.
Gatekeepers News reports that the party’s position was contained in a statement issued by its state publicity secretary, Onwuasoanya Jones, following the judgment delivered by Justice Obiora Egwuatu in Abuja.
“The party wishes to state without any confusion that His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, remains the candidate of our party for Imo West Senatorial District, having won the primaries of our great party with the overwhelming support of the majority of our party members,” the statement read.
The APC said its legal department would study the court’s decision before determining its next course of action.
“The Party’s legal department shall study the outcome of a legal intervention in this matter and act accordingly,” the statement added.
The Federal High Court had ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise Okorocha as the APC candidate for Imo West and directed Uzodimma to stop presenting himself as the party’s candidate for the 2027 senatorial election.
Justice Egwuatu ruled that the evidence before the court showed that Okorocha secured the majority of votes in the APC primary conducted on May 18, 2026.
Okorocha had challenged INEC’s recognition of Uzodimma as the winner of the primary, arguing that the commission should have relied on the reports of its officials who monitored the exercise.
The APC urged its members and supporters to remain committed to the party despite the court ruling.
“We urge our teeming Party members and supporters of our great Party to remain focused and undistracted and remain committed to working assiduously for the victory of our Party across all constituencies in the State,” the statement said.
The dispute has intensified the contest between the two politicians over the APC ticket for Imo West ahead of the 2027 general elections.
