Labour Party (LP) has congratulated Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his re-election for a fourth presidential term, describing his victory as a demonstration of the confidence reposed in his leadership by the Brazilian people.
Gatekeepers News reports that Lula secured 51.79 per cent of the valid votes in Brazil’s October 25 presidential run-off election, defeating his opponent, Flávio Bolsonaro, who polled 48.21 per cent.
In a statement issued on Friday, October 30, 2026, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, said the Labour Party shared ideological similarities with Lula’s Workers’ Party, particularly their commitment to social democracy.
The party said Lula’s victory reflected the Brazilian people’s support for a political platform rooted in social democracy.
It urged Nigerians to draw inspiration from Brazil’s electoral experience by supporting Labour Party candidates in the forthcoming general elections.
The party also cited the administration of Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, as evidence of its commitment to the welfare and aspirations of Nigerians.
According to the statement, the Labour Party’s political philosophy prioritises social justice, economic inclusion, equitable development and the welfare of citizens.
It further expressed the belief that Nigeria would benefit from having the party provide leadership across all tiers of government, including the presidency.
The party urged Nigerians to remain confident in its vision for the country, maintaining that the Brazilian election demonstrated the ability of citizens to shape their political future through the ballot.
It added that “People Power is greater than political power.”
