Protesters Didn’t Attack Wike’s Residence— Police

Rivers State Police Command has debunked rumours that the private residence of Minister of Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike was attacked by protesters at Ada-George, in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Gatekeepers News reports went around earlier on Tuesday that some protesting youths stormed Wike’s residence and forced themselves in to loot the house.

Police public relations officer (PPRO), Grace Iringe-Koko, when asked about it said, “ I am not aware of such incident. Am very sure that nothing like that happened. But I will get back to you after my findings”.

National coordinator of Center for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign, CBRPAC, Prince Wiro also debunked the rumours.

He noted that such reports are false adding that bloggers and social media platform owners should be careful with the kind of information they push out for public consumption, especially during sensitive times like this.

Wiro explained, “That information is not correct. The protesters were actually coming from the Choba axis of the Ada-George road. When they got to the Minister Wike’s house, they stopped at the right lane of the road. The minister’s house is on the left lane. There was also a very heavy police presence there.”

“What they did was that for the 15 minutes or so that they spent on that lane, they were reciting the former national anthem ‘Arise O’ Compatriots, Nigeria’s Call Obey” and raising green leaves to sky with unusual excitement.”

“They did not spend more than fifteen minutes because there is no way they could have gain access to the premises with such heavy presence of armed policemen”.
