Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced the appointment of Bruno Labbadia as the new head coach of the Super Eagles.
Gatekeepers News reports that the German tactician’s appointment was confirmed in a statement released by the NFF on Tuesday morning.
According to Mohammed Sanusi, NFF general secretary, “The NFF Executive Committee has approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee to appoint Mr Bruno Labbadia as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles. The appointment is with immediate effect.”
Labbadia takes over from Finidi George, who resigned in June after managing only two competitive games as Eagles coach.
The new coach is a former player-turned-coach, having played for several German clubs including FC Kaiserslautern, Bayern Munich, and Werder Bremen. He won the German Bundesliga with Bayern Munich in 1994.
As a coach, Labbadia has managed several German clubs, including Darmstadt, Greuther Fürth, and Wolfsburg. His last coaching job was with Stuttgart, where he was sacked in April 2023.
Labbadia becomes the sixth German to be appointed head coach of the Super Eagles, following in the footsteps of Karl-Heinz Marotzke, Gottlieb Göller, Manfred Höner, Berti Vogts, and Gernot Rohr.
