Valentine Ozigbo has disclosed that Peter Obi, Labour Party (LP) candidate in the 2023 presidential election, will no longer run on the party’s platform.
Gatekeepers News reports that Ozigbo who is an ally of Obi and member of Obidient Movement, resigned his membership of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2022 and joined LP to support Obi’s presidential ambition.
He however defected from LP to All Progressives Congress (APC) on Febraury 19, citing his unwavering commitment to the greater vision for the state.
In his resignation letter, the Anambra Governorship aspirant said he informed Obi of his decision as a “mark of deep respect” for his leadership.
Speaking on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ on Thursday, Ozigbo said he has witnessed several behind-the-scene discussions around coalition of political parties.
He said, “I don’t see a future for the Labour Party. I’m happy to live with that assertion, and I would like to be proven wrong.”
“Peter Obi that we are talking about also left
ANPP to APGA to PDP to Labour Party and I can almost guarantee that if he wishes to run for election, it’s not going to be under Labour Party. I can almost guarantee that.”
“I am not his spokesperson. Maybe I am wrong, but I am a witness to a lot of discussions around coalitions and which I can tell you my own optimism about that.”
Ozigbo reflected on his time in PDP, noting that there was a “fair and transparent” primary election under Uche Secondus’ leadership.
He however noted that when the party’s leadership changed, internal dynamics shifted, and affecting its performance.
