Edo State Government has reintroduced the monthly environmental sanitation exercise.

Gatekeepers News reports that the initiative, approved by the state Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, aims to promote a cleaner and healthier environment for all residents.

Umar Musa Ikhilor, Secretary to the State Government (SSG) in a statement on Tuesday, noted that the exercise will commence on Saturday, April 26, 2025.

Ikhilor noted that the sanitation exercise will occur on the last Saturday of every month, between 7:00 am and 10:00 am.

He added, “The reintroduction of the exercise is premised on His Excellency’s commitment to ensure a healthier and cleaner environment for the good people of Edo State.”

During the period, there will be a strict restriction on human and vehicular movement, except for individuals on essential duties.

The SSG noted that the measure is to ensure maximum participation from residents in cleaning their immediate surroundings.

The statement reads, “ It is hereby announced for the information of the General Public that the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo has approved the reintroduction of Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise in the State, which will be conducted on the last Saturday of every month between 7:00 am and 10:00 am.”

“The reintroduction of the exercise is premised on His Excellency’s commitment to ensure a healthier and cleaner environment for the good people of Edo State. During the exercise, human and vehicular movements will be strictly prohibited except for officers on essential duties. This is to ensure that all residents of the State partake in the sanitation exercise to keep their immediate environment clean.”

“The exercise is billed to commence on Saturday 26th April, 2025.”
