Employees of Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) have suspended their strike following intervention of the federal government.
Gatekeepers News reports that the workers had embarked on an indefinite strike on Wednesday over unresolved welfare concerns, including the agency’s failure to negotiate or implement agreed financial allowances, unresolved entitlements, wage awards, peculiar allowances, and outstanding payments from 2019 minimum wage.
They also accused NiMet management of withholding crucial documents, excluding certain staff from past payments, and prioritising executive retreats over essential training programs.
The workers called off the strike on Thursday, after a closed-door meeting between the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and NiMet union executives.
Gbenga Saka, special adviser on media to the minister, in a post on X, announced that the strike would be called off on Thursday night.
He wrote, “The Aviation Union to Suspend Ongoing Strike tonight.”
