Federal High Court in Abuja has mandated the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to grant Aisha Achimugu administrative bail and ensure her release within 24 hours.

Gatekeepers News reports that the ruling was delivered by presiding judge Inyang Ekwo on Wednesday. The court also scheduled a follow-up on compliance with this order for May 2, 2025.

Aisha Achimugu, the managing director and CEO of Felak Concept Group, was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at approximately 5 a.m. on Tuesday, upon her arrival from London. The EFCC had previously declared her wanted for alleged money laundering activities on March 28.

On April 3, Achimugu, represented by her lawyer Kehinde Ogunwumiju, filed a fundamental rights suit (marked FHC/ABJ/CS/626/2025) contesting the warrant for her arrest.

In her suit, she characterised the warrant as “unwarranted” and “unjustifiable,” claiming it lacked probable cause and was intended to embarrass her.

She sought an interim injunction to prevent the authorities from arresting or harassing her, invading her property, or impinging on her rights to liberty, privacy, and freedom of movement.

On Monday, the federal high court instructed Achimugu to appear before the EFCC for questioning regarding the money laundering allegations. Although her lawyer informed the court that she had notified the EFCC of her intent to return, she was nonetheless arrested at the airport.

During a subsequent session, the EFCC presented the case regarding Achimugu’s fundamental rights suit. Parties involved met in the Judge’s chambers before the open court proceedings.

Judge Ekwo ordered the EFCC to finalise the arrangements for Achimugu’s administrative bail and facilitate her release.

As of now, the EFCC has not filed any criminal charges against her.
