Senate President Godswill Akpabio has asked a federal high court in Abuja, seeking an order compelling Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, senator representing Kogi central, to delete the satirical apology posted on her social media pages.

Gatekeepers News reports that Natasha had on April 27, posted a sarcastic apology to Akpabio on her official Facebook page, accompanied by a short video. The senator said she was sorry for the “crime of maintaining dignity and self-respect”.

Her action defied a court order issued by Justice Binta Nyako, which barred both parties from making public comments about the ongoing case particularly allegations of sexual harassment until the case is resolved.

Akpabio’s legal team, led by Kehinde Ogunwumiju, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), told the court that the post constituted a breach of the judge’s directive and asked that it compel her to delete the post from all her social media platforms.

Akpabio’s team also asked the court to mandate Akpoti-Uduaghan to publish a written apology in at least two national dailies and file an affidavit confirming compliance.
