Adebayo Salami, the veteran Nigerian actor, is set to mark his 60th anniversary in Nollywood with the release of a new movie ‘Her Excellency’.
Gatekeepers News reports that the 73-year-old actor, born on May 9, 1953, began his acting journey in 1964.
To commemorate his remarkable career spanning six decades, Her Excellency will premiere on June 29, 2025, and hit cinemas nationwide on July 4.
In a video posted on social media, Femi Adebayo, the veteran actor’s son, described the film as a fitting tribute to his father’s enduring legacy.
The son added that the movie not only celebrates his father’s career but also embodies the depth of his passion and dedication to filmmaking.
He said, “ I am going to take a pause and give you that honour. Daddy has spent 60 years in the entertainment industry. Yes, 60 is big and much.”
“And we are here to honour and celebrate daddy with a very big film coming to the cinemas from the 4th of July.”
“It is titled ‘Her Excellency’. It is Daddy’s film.
We are going to be doing the premiere on the 29th of June. It is to celebrate and honour the fact that he has spent 60 years in this industry.”
Adebayo Salami began his acting career with the Young Concert Party, a theatre troupe led by Ojo Ladipo, popularly known as Baba Mero.
The group later evolved into the Ojo Ladipo Theatre Group and eventually became the iconic Awada Kerikeri Theatre Group.
After Ladipo died in 1978, Salami took over leadership, which significantly boosted his prominence in the Yoruba film industry.
He made his big-screen debut in Ajani Ogun, the first Yoruba-language film, where the late Adeyemi Afolayan played the lead role. In 1985, Salami produced his first film, Ogun Ajaye, under the Awada Kerikeri banner.
