President Bola Tinubu held a late-night meeting with Nyesom Wike, Minister of the FCT, and Siminalayi Fubara, suspended Governor of Rivers State, in Abuja on Thursday.
Gatekeepers News reports that the meeting aimed to broker peace between the two leaders, who have been embroiled in a bitter political rivalry since 2023.
The rift between Wike and Fubara led to a crisis in Rivers State, prompting Tinubu to declare emergency rule and suspend Fubara and the state lawmakers in March 2025. Tinubu had previously met with Fubara in London in April and Lagos in June, and this latest meeting is part of efforts to resolve the crisis.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the president, confirmed the meeting.
“President Bola Tinubu hosted a reconciliation meeting on Thursday night at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, bringing together all the figures in the Rivers State political crisis,” Onanuga wrote on X.
