FG And States Must Collaborate To Avoid Legal Reforms Fragmentation – Uba Sani

Kaduna Governor Uba Sani has emphasised the need for collaboration between the federal government and states to avoid fragmentation of legal reforms, which he says undermines public confidence in the justice system.

Gatekeepers Newreports that Sani, while speaking at the Body of Attorneys-General (BOAG) conference in Kaduna on Wednesday, noted that the lack of coordinated action in the administration of justice has led to jurisdictional conflicts, duplication of efforts, and fragmentation of legal reforms.

“This is not about one level of government ceding its authority to another, rather, it is about creating a symbiotic relationship where we can share ideas and address critical gaps,” Sani said.

According to the governor, the current system breeds inefficiency, frustrates citizens, and ultimately undermines public confidence in the rule of law.

“A lack of harmonisation can lead to a patchwork of legal standards across the country,” he warned.

In his own remarks, Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, lamented the delay in dispensation of justice, saying it has “severely strained” the country’s legal system.

Fagbemi attributed the delay in trials to prison congestion, particularly with the rising number of awaiting trial inmates.
