Troops Kill Over 20 Insurgents In North-East Offensive

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), backed by air support and local security groups, have killed more than 20 insurgents in a series of raids across Borno and Yobe states.

Gatekeepers Newreports that the military source told News Agency of Nigerian (NAN) that the week-long operation, conducted between August 23 and 30, covered Gujba, Gubio, Sabsawa, Whumtakum, Mandarari, Gajigana, Konduga, Banki, and Loskori Kura.

During the offensive, soldiers also arrested several insurgent collaborators and suppliers.

Recovered items included AK-47 rifles, rocket-propelled grenade tubes, bombs, hundreds of rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and other logistics supplies.

“They also safely detonated improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during the clearance operations,” the source said. “Additionally, soldiers intercepted 242 bags of NPK fertiliser intended for insurgents, who use it in producing IEDs.”

According to the source, the operation disrupted insurgent supply lines and limited their freedom of movement, helping to create safer conditions for economic and social activities in the region.

The military high command was said to have commended the troops for their “resilience and professionalism” and pledged continued support to consolidate the gains made in the counter-insurgency campaign.
