Lere Olayinka, media aide to Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), says his principal will issue a detailed response to remarks made by Aminu Tambuwal, former Sokoto governor, in a recent interview.

Gatekeepers Newreports that Tambuwal, now representing Sokoto South in the Senate, had denied betraying Wike during the 2022 presidential primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He insisted that his relationship with the minister remains cordial.

“I have nothing against Wike, I did not betray anybody. It is when you have an understanding with somebody and you go against it that you betray the person,” Tambuwal said.

During the primary, Tambuwal stepped down and directed his supporters to back Atiku Abubakar, a move analysts say shifted momentum in Atiku’s favour and dealt a blow to Wike, who was seen as a strong contender. Wike had previously supported Tambuwal in the 2018 PDP primary, a gesture many believe he expected to be reciprocated.

In a statement on Monday, Olayinka said Wike will not let Tambuwal’s comments go unanswered.

“The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, will in due course, give appropriate response to all that were said last Friday, by the former governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal,” the aide stated.

He added that Tambuwal not only spoke against Wike but also made remarks about President Bola Tinubu.
“Such will not go unresponded to,” Olayinka stressed. “The Minister will respond accordingly. He will definitely tell Nigerians what a betrayal is and what it means to have integrity. Till then, let’s keep our fingers crossed.”
