The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has announced the suspension of its nationwide strike.

Gatekeepers News reports that the development follows the intervention of federal government in its dispute with Dangote Petroleum Refinery.

At a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, Festus Osifo, president of PENGASSAN, confirmed the development but cautioned that the union will be vigilant in monitoring the agreement.

Osifo said, “We are suspending and will be monitoring closely.”

“Any slip on the part of Dangote, any part of this agreement, or any communiqué put out by the ministry of labour that is broken, we will not give any notice; we will resume this suspended industrial action.”

Recall that the union had earlier directed its members to embark on an indefinite strike to protest the dismissal of more than 800 workers at the refinery.

However, following reconciliation meetings facilitated by the federal government, the Dangote Group agreed to redeploy disengaged staff to other subsidiaries without loss of pay.
