Super Eagles Arrive Uyo After Emergency Landing In Angola

Super Eagles of Nigeria have safely arrived in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, following an emergency landing in Angola caused by a cracked windscreen on their aircraft.

Gatekeepers News reports that the team was on its way back to Nigeria after defeating Lesotho 2–1 in Polokwane, South Africa, when the ValueJet plane developed a fault mid-air.

The incident occurred shortly after the aircraft took off from a refuelling stop in Luanda, Angola, forcing the pilots to return to the airport.

After several hours of delay and coordination for a replacement flight, the Super Eagles eventually departed Luanda and landed at the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, at about 8:05 a.m. on Sunday.

The team is now preparing to face the Squirrels of Benin Republic in a decisive final fixture of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers scheduled for Tuesday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

As it stands, Benin Republic leads Group C with 17 points, followed by South Africa with 15, and Nigeria in third place with 14. Rwanda has 11 points, Lesotho 9, while Zimbabwe sits bottom with 5.
