Forum of State Chairmen of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has restated its allegiance to the party’s national chairman, Umar Damagum, while dismissing the faction led by Abdulrahman Mohammed as unconstitutional.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a communique issued after its meeting on Thursday, November 6, the forum affirmed that Damagum remains the party’s only legitimate national chairman in accordance with the PDP Constitution (2017, as amended).
The statement reads, “The forum in the same vein dissociates itself from the purported Abdurahman leadership and wants to categorically say that the PDP has only one National Chairman, His Excellency Umar Damagun.”
The forum praised the synergy between the National Working Committee (NWC), the PDP Governors’ Forum led by Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, and Board of Trustees (BoT) chaired by Adolphus Wabara, describing it as vital to maintaining stability within the party.
It further urged all state chapters to uphold internal discipline and take firm action against members whose conduct threatens party unity.
The Forum emphasised the critical importance of discipline within the Party and calls on all State Chapters not to hesitate in invoking the relevant provisions of the Party Constitution to discipline erring members whose conduct undermines unity, cohesion, and the collective interest of the PDP,” the statement added.
The chairmen also encouraged all accredited delegates to actively participate in the upcoming national convention, stressing that the process must promote transparency, credibility, and internal democracy in electing new members of the NWC.
Reaffirming their dedication to the party’s progress, the state chairmen pledged continued cooperation with the national leadership to strengthen the PDP and restore public trust ahead of future elections.
The statement concluded, “The Forum reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the unity, progress, and electoral success of the PDP across all levels and pledges to continue working closely with the National leadership to strengthen internal democracy and rebuild public confidence in the Party.”
