Department of State Services (DSS) has filed a six-count criminal charge against Innocent Onukwume for allegedly calling for a coup against Nigerian government through a post on social media.
Gatekeepers News reports that the charge, numbered FHC/ABJ/CR/610/2025, was filed before Federal High Court in Abuja by DSS counsel, A. M. Danalami, on Tuesday.
According to court documents, the 27-year-old resident of Umusayo Layout, Oyigbo LGA, Rivers State, made a post on his verified X handle, @theagroman, in October, allegedly advocating for the suspension of Nigeria’s democratic government.
He reportedly wrote, “A coup in Nigeria is needed. Dispose of APC, suspend the Nigeria government and join the AES. That is all we need now.”
The DSS said the act contravenes provisions of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2024 (as amended), adding that it was intended to create fear, alarm, and disturb public peace.
The security agency emphasised that such posts could incite unrest and undermine national stability. No date has yet been fixed for Onukwume’s arraignment.
This development comes amid reports of an alleged foiled coup attempt in October, during which military authorities detained several officers for questioning.
