Abiodun Hails Tinubu For Reappointing Marwa As NDLEA Chairman

Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, has commended President Bola Tinubu for renewing the appointment of Buba Marwa as chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for another five-year term.

Gatekeepers Newreports that in a statement issued on Friday by his spokesperson, Kayode Akinmade, Abiodun described the reappointment as a “well-deserved endorsement of competence, integrity, patriotism and excellence in public service”.

Abiodun, who also chairs the Southern Governors’ Forum, said Tinubu’s decision reflects his commitment to recognising and rewarding public officials who deliver exceptional results.

He noted that Marwa — first appointed in January 2021 by the late former President Muhammadu Buhari — has shown “outstanding achievements that justify the confidence reposed in him”.

Before leading the NDLEA, Marwa chaired the Presidential Advisory Committee for the Elimination of Drug Abuse from 2018 to 2020.

Highlighting the agency’s progress under Marwa, Abiodun cited the arrest of more than 73,000 drug traffickers and barons, the seizure of over 15 million kilogrammes of illicit substances, and the conviction of more than 12,000 offenders. He added that more than 8,200 drug users have received counselling and rehabilitation through NDLEA programmes.

“By all means, General Marwa’s reappointment as NDLEA boss is great news for the safety and security of Nigeria and for safeguarding the country’s future from the destructive effects of narcotics,” the governor said.

“President Tinubu has done Nigeria a great service with this reappointment.”

Abiodun also praised Marwa for spearheading nationwide anti-drug campaigns, strengthening international partnerships, and transforming the NDLEA into a model institution for accountability and effective service delivery.

He congratulated the NDLEA chairman and urged him to sustain the momentum in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking.
