The Chairman of Rabah Local Government Area, Sokoto state, Alhaji Yusuf Mohammed Rabah, has dismissed a report by Sahara Reporters alleging that several people were killed during an attack on Tofa village on Tuesday night.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement signed by Mode Mai Dawa, Information Officer of Rabah Local Government on Thursday, the chairman confirmed that armed bandits, suspected to have come from Alikiru in Sububu Forest in Zamfara State, passed through Dankare and Dalijan before storming Tofa around midnight. He said the attackers began shooting sporadically but were quickly confronted by a combined team of soldiers, police operatives, community guards and vigilante members.
According to him, two residents sustained gunshot injuries and were taken to the hospital, where one has been discharged while the other remains under medical care. He noted that the council is fully covering their medical expenses.
The chairman further revealed that two women earlier declared missing were later confirmed to have been abducted by the attackers. He added that the bandits abandoned livestock they had rustled following sustained firepower from security agents.
Rabah described the report alleging multiple killings and mass abductions as false and misleading, commending the joint security team for their swift response in repelling the attack.
He assured residents of the administration’s commitment to improving security across Rabah LGA and urged communities to support security agencies with credible information, especially about potential informants.
The chairman also cautioned the public against politicising sensitive security matters and praised Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his continued support to areas affected by banditry.
