Three officials attached to Abia State Governor Alex Otti were attacked on Tuesday by unidentified gunmen in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
Gatekeepers News reports that the incident occurred along the Umuowa–Ihite junction corridor, a few kilometres from Sam Mbakwe Airport, where the aides were headed as part of an advance team.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Njoku Ukoha, Chief Press Secretary to the governor, confirmed that the victims were members of an advance team and not part of Otti’s main convoy.
“In the early hours of today, December 2nd, an advance team of three members from the Office of the Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, on duty to Sam Mbakwe Airport, Imo State, was attacked by unidentified gunmen,” the statement said.
Ukoha added that the attack occurred near the airport junction, noting that the governor was nowhere near the scene at the time of the incident.
He also confirmed that no lives were lost and that all three affected officials survived the attack.
