The family of Nigerian afrobeat singer Innocent Ujah Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has petitioned the Nigerian Police against his wife, Edo State lawmaker Natasha Osawaru, over alleged assault, substance abuse, and other misconduct.
Gatekeepers News reports that the action comes amid mounting controversies surrounding the couple, just a year into their marriage.
According to reports, 2Baba and Natasha were in the spotlight earlier this week after a video went viral showing the lawmaker shouting at the singer in a London mall.
The situation reportedly escalated with allegations of Natasha physically assaulting 2Baba, controlling his finances, and interfering in his music career.
In a petition dated November 12 and addressed to Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, the Idibia family listed six allegations against Natasha.
These included assault, substance abuse, financial misappropriation, seizure of 2Baba’s personal property, and damage to his reputation.
The family urged the police to investigate, stating that the incidents had caused 2Baba severe emotional distress, financial strain, and public humiliation.
The petition, shared on X on Thursday, partly read, “We, the undersigned members of the Idibia family, write this petition to formally request the intervention of the Nigeria Police Force in investigating a series of disturbing incidents allegedly involving Miss Natasha Irobosa Osawaru and our son and brother, Mr. Ujah Idibia (aka 2Baba)…”
“These incidents have reportedly caused Mr. Innocent Ujah Idibia severe emotional distress, financial hardship, and public embarrassment. More importantly, his personal safety and mental wellbeing appear to be at risk.”
The petition also highlights claims of unauthorised access to 2Baba’s bank accounts and phone, seizure of travel documents, and alleged violation of marriage laws, all of which the family insists require urgent police attention.
