MultiChoice Group has announced that 11 television channels will no longer be available on DStv starting December 31, 2025.
Gatekeepers News reports that the affected channels include Discovery Channel, TLC Africa, Discovery Family, Real Time, TNT Africa, Food Network, Travel Channel, Investigation Discovery, Cartoon Network, Cartoonito, and CNN International.
The company explained that the removal is due to the expiry of its distribution agreement with Warner Bros, which has not yet been renewed. MultiChoice warned that if a new deal is not reached, the channels will be removed from 1 January 2026.
In a statement, MultiChoice reassured customers that its entertainment offerings will remain diverse and rich, highlighting other available channels such as Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, DreamWorks, National Geographic, History Channel, BBC News, Sky News, and Al Jazeera.
The firm also said it has global content partnerships to introduce fresh content and new services in the future.
The announcement comes after Canal+ Group, a French media company, acquired a majority stake in MultiChoice. Canal+ now holds 46 percent of MultiChoice shares, with an additional 2.2 percent through shareholder agreements, and restructured the company’s board in September.
MultiChoice has faced challenges in Nigeria, losing 1.4 million subscribers over the past two years, according to its audited results for the year ended March 31, 2025.
