St. Pius Xth Grammar School, Onicha-Ugbo, an institution in Delta State with a rich legacy of academic excellence and character formation, is set to celebrate its 65th anniversary in grand style.

According to the statement, the series of commemorative activities are designed to honour the school’s glorious past, celebrate its remarkable present, and inspire its future.

Established in 1960, St. Pius Xth Grammar School, Onicha-Ugbo, in present Delta State, has made giant strides in education, producing professionals and responsible citizens who continue to contribute meaningfully to society.

Among them are Tony Elumelu of Heirs Holding; Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, Nigeria’s former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources; Vice Admiral Dele Joseph Ezeoba, former Chief of Naval Staff; Major General Lawrence Fejokwu; Major General Raymond Ochei and Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, former Minority Leader, Federal House of Representatives, among others.

Over the past 65 years, the school has remained steadfast and committed to academic excellence, discipline, moral values and holistic development.

Organisers noted that the anniversary will spotlight the pioneering roles of past and present principals, teachers and old boys whose contributions, dedication, vision and sacrifices, remain unforgettable.

They noted that “they laid the foundation of the school’s growth and sustained relevance, and they will always be remembered for all these and more.”

A key highlight of the celebration is the contribution of the Old Boys’ Association, which will unveil and commission several legacy projects in support of the school’s infrastructural and academic development. No doubt, these projects underscore the strong bond between the school and its alumni.

The two day events will feature a variety of activities including: A visit to the school on Friday, December 19 for projects assessment and also a courtesy visit to the traditional ruler of Onicha Ugbo.

On Saturday, December 20, a thanksgiving Mass will be held at the school, followed by the unveiling of a statue in honour of the pioneer principal who ram the schoool from 1960 to 1970.

Other events include presentation of a book that captures the school’s essence from 1960 to date, an anniversary lecture and career talks, cultural and students’ talent showcase, and anniversary lunch and awards.

The organisers said the anniversary would serve as an opportunity for the staff, students and alumni to reaffirm their collective resolve to uphold the school’s proud legacy while embracing innovation and excellence for the next generation.
