FG Orders Reopening Of All Unity Schools

Federal government has directed the reopening of all Unity Colleges previously closed due to security concerns.

Gatekeepers News reports that the decision followed incidents in which armed bandits invaded at least three schools within the space of one month, abducting hundreds of students and staff.

The attacks, which occurred mainly at night, involved heavily armed assailants who overpowered security personnel, forced students out of hostels, and moved them to forest hideouts, raising nationwide concerns about the safety of schoolchildren.

In a statement on Thursday, Boriowo Folasade, spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, said the government has mandated that the schools reopen to ensure that no child is denied access to education. She added that the safety, welfare, and well-being of students remain guaranteed.

The ministry affirmed its commitment to protecting every child’s right to education, noting there is sustained collaboration with relevant security agencies to guarantee their safety.

Boriowo also assured that the academic calendar will not be affected.

The statement added, “The federal government has reaffirmed its responsibility to protect every Nigerian child and to uphold their constitutional right to education in a secure setting.”

“The decision to reopen the Unity Colleges reflects the administration’s determination to ensure that no child is denied access to education due to security concerns.”

“Education remains a central pillar of this administration’s human capital development agenda and a key driver of national growth.”

“The successful return of students and the smooth conduct of examinations in several Unity Colleges underscore this commitment.”

The ministry appreciated school administrators and students for their cooperation and patience.
