An assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Ogbon-Inu Popoola, has died after collapsing during a management meeting at the Ebonyi state police command headquarters in Abakaliki.

Gatekeepers News reports that the senior officer reportedly developed sudden breathing complications while the meeting was ongoing and was immediately taken to the police clinic within the command. He was later confirmed dead by medical personnel.

The Ebonyi police command confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Thursday by its spokesperson, Joshua Ukandu, who said Popoola passed away on Wednesday during official duties.

According to the statement, the deceased was the assistant commissioner of police in charge of the state intelligence department until his death, a role that placed him at the centre of security coordination and intelligence gathering within the command.

Ukandu described Popoola as a committed and professional officer whose service to the Nigeria Police Force spanned several years, noting that his death came as a shock to colleagues and officers at the command.

The remains of the late ACP have been deposited at a mortuary in Abakaliki, while arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in line with police traditions.

The command expressed condolences to the family, friends, and officers of the department, describing the loss as a painful one to the force and the Ebonyi policing community.
