Governor of Jigawa state, Umar Namadi has signed 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, approving a spending plan that covers the state government and all 27 local government councils.
Gatekeepers News reports that the signing took place on Wednesday at the Government House, where Governor Namadi announced that the state government budget stands at ₦901.84 billion, while the combined allocation for the 27 local councils is ₦288.85 billion.
The Governor said the budget was shaped by public input and reflects the priorities of residents across the state.
He said, “This budget is the outcome of our extensive citizen engagement programme and truly reflects the yearnings and aspirations of the people of Jigawa State. It is, therefore, a citizens’ budget—exactly what our people asked for, and exactly what is contained in this document.”
Governor Namadi appreciated Jigawa State House of Assembly for its cooperation throughout the budget process, including public consultations, meetings, and committee reviews, which he said helped ensure timely passage of the bill.
He also praised members of the State Executive Council for their commitment to gathering feedback from citizens across the state.
Namadi said, “I commend the members of the Council for their tireless efforts in gathering inputs from our citizens, often working late into the night. This level of commitment is truly commendable.”
The Governor further acknowledged the role of the state civil service in preparing the budget document, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and service delivery.
The budget was passed by the State House of Assembly following the adoption of a report by the Standing Committee on Appropriation during a plenary session chaired by Speaker Haruna Aliyu.
Aliyu said all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies were subjected to detailed budget defence sessions. He added that the Assembly was satisfied with provisions made for infrastructure development and social services in the 2026 fiscal year.
The lawmakers also approved ₦288.848 billion for the 27 local government councils. The Speaker advised the Ministry for Local Government to ensure strict compliance with budget guidelines by council chairmen to improve development and living conditions in rural communities.
