A major fire outbreak was recorded on Tuesday evening at the Great Nigeria Insurance House, a multi-storey commercial building located on Martins Street in Idumota area of Lagos Island.

Gatekeepers News reports that eyewitnesses said the fire started from one of the lower floors of the building before spreading to upper levels, sending thick smoke into the air and causing panic among traders and passersby in the busy commercial district.

Emergency responders from Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service were quickly deployed to the scene, where they are currently battling the blaze and working to prevent it from spreading to nearby structures.

Officials at the scene said firefighting operations are ongoing, with efforts focused on containing the fire and ensuring the safety of occupants and surrounding businesses.

As of the time of filing this report, no casualties have been officially confirmed, although assessments are still underway.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established, but authorities said investigations will commence after the fire is fully extinguished.

Martins Street and adjoining roads experienced heavy human and vehicular congestion as security personnel cordoned off parts of the area to allow emergency operations.
