The All Progressives Congress (APC) says it has digitally registered and verified more than two million members nationwide, less than one week after commencing its nationwide membership revalidation exercise.
Gatekeepers News reports that the National Secretary of the party, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, disclosed this on Monday in Abuja while briefing journalists after a meeting of the APC National Working Committee (NWC) with state coordinators supervising the exercise.
Basiru said the meeting was jointly presided over by the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and the Chairman of the APC State Chairmen Forum, Mr. Cornelius Ojelabi, alongside other party leaders from across the country.
According to him, data remains critical to the party’s operational effectiveness, particularly in strengthening mobilisation, organisation and internal consultation.
Despite the fact that several states are yet to commence full-scale registration, Basiru said the party has recorded significant progress.
“As of today, just one week into the exercise, we have over two million Nigerians digitally verified, complete with their names and voter identification numbers. By next week, we expect the figure to rise to between eight and nine million members, by the grace of God,” he said.
He explained that the digital registration process captures detailed demographic data, including age, gender and occupation, while ensuring data integrity through linkage to members’ phone numbers and voter identification numbers.
Responding to concerns about access in conflict-affected or remote areas, Basiru said manual registration would be adopted where necessary, with such records uploaded once internet connectivity is available.
“No APC member will be excluded due to insecurity or poor network access. We have deployed multiple registration personnel across wards nationwide to ensure inclusiveness,” he said.
Basiru also dismissed allegations that internal party factions were being excluded from the exercise, stressing that the registration is open to all members, in line with the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the party’s leader.
“No faction is being legitimised or disallowed. Registration is open to everyone who meets the requirements. Contestation comes later,” he stated.
The National Secretary declined to release a state-by-state breakdown of the registered members, describing such details as internal party data. However, he reaffirmed that the APC remains a pan-Nigerian party with a strong presence across all regions.
He commended party stakeholders at the state level for their commitment, noting that issues identified during the registration process were already being addressed.
