The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted 347.5 kilogrammes of Canadian Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, concealed inside an imported Toyota Sienna at the Apapa Port in Lagos.
Gatekeepers News reports that the drugs were discovered during a joint inspection of a single import consignment containing four vehicles, according to a statement by the Customs Public Relations Officer of the Apapa Port Command, Isah Sulaiman.
Customs said the substance was hidden in 13 bags inside one of the vehicles. A breakdown of the weight showed 10 bags of 25kg each, one bag of 29kg, and two bags weighing 34.5kg and 34kg, bringing the total to 347.5kg.
The Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Apapa Port Command, Emmanuel Oshoba, described the seizure as the fourth major joint drug interception by Customs and the NDLEA at the port in less than two months.
He said the operation reflects his determination to ensure that no cargo passes through the port without proper examination.
“We remain vigilant and resolute in our duty to protect our society and national security,” Oshoba said.
The CAC warned smugglers that any attempt to traffic prohibited goods through Apapa Port would be detected and foiled.
Oshoba noted that the seizure highlights the strength of inter-agency collaboration, explaining that intelligence sharing and joint enforcement have consistently outmanoeuvred smuggling networks operating in Nigeria’s maritime sector.
According to him, the interception is a direct outcome of the strengthened partnership between the two agencies.
He also revealed that the planned deployment of a high-capacity drive-through scanner, capable of processing 200 containers per hour, would further strengthen technology-driven anti-smuggling operations at the port.
Oshoba added that the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) of both agencies promote zero tolerance, professionalism and seamless cooperation.
He confirmed that the seized 347.5kg of Canadian Loud has been handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and prosecution of suspects.
The controller said the operation aligns with the 2026 International Customs Day (ICD) theme, “Customs Protecting Society Through Vigilance and Commitment.” He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to facilitating legitimate trade while intensifying efforts to combat illicit activities.
