Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew, has been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office, police in the United Kingdom confirmed on Thursday, the day he turned 66.

Gatekeepers News reports that the arrest is linked to allegations involving the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Thames Valley Police said Mountbatten-Windsor is currently in custody while officers conduct searches at his homes in Berkshire and Norfolk.

Reports indicate the investigation centers on claims that the former Duke of York, who was stripped of his royal titles in 2022, may have shared confidential documents from his tenure as a UK trade envoy with Epstein. Additional allegations involve a second woman reportedly sent by Epstein to the UK for a sexual encounter with Mountbatten-Windsor.

Mountbatten-Windsor has consistently denied all wrongdoing connected to Epstein or any other accusations. In 2022, King Charles III formally revoked his “prince” title and required him to leave his Windsor residence.

Earlier Thursday, unmarked police vehicles were seen at his Sandringham Estate property in Norfolk, with officers photographed near the residence. Authorities stressed that the case remains under investigation and warned that reporting must avoid potential contempt of court.

Oliver Wright, Assistant Chief Constable of Thames Valley Police, said the force is conducting a thorough inquiry and is committed to maintaining its integrity amid intense public scrutiny.

Police added: “As part of the investigation, we have today (19/2) arrested a man in his sixties from Norfolk on suspicion of misconduct in public office and are carrying out searches at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk.”

“The man remains in police custody at this time. We will not be naming the arrested man, as per national guidance. Please also remember that this case is now active so care should be taken with any publication to avoid being in contempt of court.”
