Two Killed As Container Trucks Collide On Oshodi–Apapa Expressway

Two persons have died following a collision between two fully laden 40-foot container trucks along the Cele inward section of the Oshodi–Apapa Expressway in Lagos.

Gatekeepers Newreports that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed that the crash occurred in the early hours of Wednesday around Mile 2, a critical freight corridor linking the ports.

According to the agency, the driver of one of the trucks, with registration number T-392 LA, was trapped inside his cabin after the impact and was later confirmed dead.

A second victim, described as a suspected miscreant, was discovered beneath one of the trucks during recovery operations. Officials said the circumstances surrounding his presence at the scene were not immediately clear.

Rescue efforts were conducted by LASTMA’s emergency response team, with technical support from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

Security operatives from the Nigeria Police Force, Ilasa Division, secured the area and maintained perimeter control.

The State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit later evacuated the bodies, paving the way for gradual restoration of traffic along the busy expressway, a major route for port-bound and outbound cargo.

LASTMA said the case has been handed over to the Ilasa Police Division for further investigation to determine the cause of the crash.

Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, extended condolences to the families of the victims and cautioned articulated vehicle operators about the dangers associated with heavy freight movement, particularly at night.

He urged truck drivers to strictly adhere to speed limits and safety regulations, stressing that nighttime driving demands heightened vigilance.

Motorists were also advised to exercise caution on major highways and promptly alert emergency authorities to hazardous situations.
