Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has approved the confirmation of appointment for 1,659 staff of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) following a civil service confirmation exercise.

Gatekeepers News reports that the approval came after a confirmation examination conducted by the FCT Civil Service Commission on February 28 for workers of the administration.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Lere Olayinka, the minister’s senior special assistant on public communications and social media, said 2,512 workers were invited to participate in the confirmation examination, but only 2,281 eventually sat for the assessment.

According to the statement, Emeka Ezeh, chairman of FCT Civil Service Commission, said some of the workers who took part in the exercise were employed as far back as 2016 and 2019, while others joined the service shortly before Wike assumed office as minister in August 2023.

Ezeh disclosed that 224 of the invited workers failed to appear for the examination, raising suspicion that some of them might be ghost workers on the payroll.

He said the confirmation process was part of efforts to verify the status of workers and ensure accountability within the FCTA workforce.

The commission also revealed that plans have been concluded to conduct promotion exercises for eligible workers covering both the 2025 and 2026 promotion cycles.

Earlier in January, Wike approved the immediate promotion of over 2,000 FCTA workers after they successfully participated in promotion examinations held between November 25 and November 29, 2025.
