Musa Orders Service Chiefs To Review Military Operations In North-East And North-West

The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has directed Nigeria’s service chiefs to visit the north-east and north-west to review and strengthen ongoing military operations in the regions.

Gatekeepers Newreports that the directive was issued on Wednesday during a meeting at the Ministry of Defence Nigeria, where Musa met with service chiefs to assess the security situation in the troubled zones.

According to his media adviser, Timothy Antigha, the service chiefs are expected to conduct on-ground assessments and report their findings after visiting the affected geopolitical regions.

The development comes amid a surge in attacks by terrorist groups targeting military positions and security personnel.

On Monday, fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) reportedly killed a commanding officer of the Nigerian Army during an assault on a military facility in Kukawa Local Government Area.

The following day, troops repelled another early-morning attack by suspected ISWAP fighters on a military base in the same area.

About a week earlier, suspected fighters from Boko Haram and ISWAP attempted to attack military positions in Ngoshe.

The Nigerian Air Force later said air strikes carried out in response to the attempted assault killed more than 50 suspected terrorists.

The latest directive from the defence minister is aimed at reviewing operational strategies and strengthening the military’s response to the persistent insurgency in the region.
