Adamu Abubakar, the first son of former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has formally resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and is reportedly heading to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Gatekeepers News reports that in a resignation letter dated March 4, addressed to the chairman of the PDP in Jada 1 Ward in Adamawa State, Adamu said his departure from the party takes effect immediately. He thanked ward leaders and members for the support they extended to him during his time in the party.
The move comes shortly after his exit from public office. Earlier this month he stepped down as Commissioner for Works and Energy Development in Adamawa State, a position he held under the administration of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.
Sources familiar with the situation revealed that Adamu is expected to join the ADC, where his father has aligned politically following his own departure from the PDP.
While Adamu’s resignation letter did not explicitly state which party he plans to join, political insiders say the switch to ADC is imminent as part of a broader opposition realignment ahead of 2027 general elections.
