Court Refuses Application To Bar Ireti Kingibe From ADC Activities

A Federal High Court in Abuja has rejected a bid to stop Ireti Kingibe from taking part in the activities of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), ruling that she must first be served with court papers and given an opportunity to respond.

Gatekeepers News reports that the suit was filed by members of the ADC’s Wuse Ward Executive Committee in the Federal Capital Territory, who sought an interim order to prevent Kingibe from “parading herself as a member” of the party following her alleged suspension over anti-party conduct and violation of party rules.

Justice Peter Lifu, in his Thursday ruling, held that the court could not grant the request without first notifying Kingibe and allowing her to prepare a defence, saying that justice requires both sides to be heard, especially in political matters.

The judge directed that the senator be served with all relevant court processes and adjourned the matter to April 20, 2026, for further hearing of pending applications.

The plaintiffs had alleged that Kingibe was suspended by the ward committee on March 10, 2026, for alleged anti-party activities, gross misconduct, and disregard for the party constitution, and sought to bar her from attending meetings or representing the party.

Kingibe’s counsel informed the court that a preliminary objection challenging the suit’s competence has already been filed.
