Corps Member Dies In Gun Battle Between Soldiers And Robbers

A member of the National Youth Service Corps has been killed during a gunfight involving troops of the Nigerian Army and suspected armed robbers in Abuja, in an incident that has drawn public concern over civilian safety during security operations.

Gatekeepers News reports that the deceased corps member, identified as Abdulsamad Jamiu, lost his life after being caught in crossfire during a robbery response operation in the Dei-Dei area of the Federal Capital Territory.

The incident occurred in the early hours of April 25, 2026, when soldiers attached to the Guards Brigade reportedly responded to a distress call from residents over an ongoing robbery attack at Shagari Estate. Upon arrival, the troops encountered the fleeing suspects, who opened fire, leading to what officials described as a “brief but intense exchange.”

During the shootout, the corps member was hit by stray bullets. Despite efforts to manage the situation and save lives, he later succumbed to his injuries.  

Army authorities confirmed the development, expressing regret over the incident and extending condolences to the family of the deceased, the NYSC, and others affected.

They also disclosed that a full investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy and to review operational procedures aimed at preventing similar occurrences.  

The remains of the victim have since been deposited at Kubwa General Hospital, while residents have been urged to remain calm and continue cooperating with security agencies in efforts to maintain peace and security in the area.
