NIS Warns Nigerians Against Using Third-Party Passport Platforms

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has cautioned Nigerians against using third-party platforms for passport applications, warning that such services should be treated as fraudulent.

Gatekeepers Newreports that in a statement shared via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday, the agency dismissed recent online claims about its passport application and payment system as “false, misleading, and capable of confusing the public.”

The NIS reaffirmed that its passport processing system is secure and operates solely through its official portal.

“The NIS operates a secure, transparent, and government-approved passport application system, which is accessible exclusively through its official portal,” the statement read.

The agency stressed that its website remains the only authorised platform for all passport-related applications and payments, both for Nigerians within the country and those in the diaspora.

It also rejected claims suggesting any partnership with religious organisations or private entities in handling passport payments.

“At no time has the Service partnered with or authorised any religious organisation, private entity, or individual to act as an intermediary or receiving account on its behalf,” the statement added.

Addressing specific allegations circulating online, the NIS described them as entirely untrue.

“Recent allegations suggesting that the name of a religious organization appears in the Service’s payment process are entirely false and do not reflect the structure, integrity, or processes of the NIS,” it said.

The agency disclosed that it has launched an investigation into the source of the misinformation and warned that those responsible would face consequences.

“The Nigeria Immigration Service has taken note of this purported allegation and is currently investigating the matter. Appropriate action will be taken against any individuals or groups found culpable,” it stated.

The NIS urged the public to rely only on its official communication channels and avoid engaging with unofficial links or intermediaries when applying for passports.
