President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the deployment of a specialised security unit with advanced rescue capabilities to secure the release of pupils and teachers abducted from schools in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the directive was announced during a visit by a high-powered Federal Government delegation to Esiele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area, where gunmen attacked three schools on May 15 and kidnapped several pupils and teachers.
The delegation included Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu, Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa and presidential aide Sunday Dare.
The Federal Government said the President remains deeply concerned about the abduction and is committed to ensuring the victims are safely rescued. Authorities disclosed that the specialised unit would intensify ongoing operations using intelligence-led strategies and coordinated security measures.
As part of efforts to strengthen security in the area, Tinubu also approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in collaboration with the Oyo State Government. The delegation further assured community leaders that requests for a military base in the affected area would be forwarded to the President for consideration.
The school abduction, which occurred in May, involved attacks on Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School in Oriire Local Government Area, sparking widespread concern and calls for urgent government intervention.
