Police Arrest Suspected Bandit In Osun

Osun State Police Command has detained a man suspected to be involved in banditry following his arrest by residents in Osogbo, the state capital.

Gatekeepers News reports that the suspect was reportedly apprehended on Wednesday around the Okefia area near the Government House along Ilobu Road before being handed over to security operatives.

According to reports, the suspect drew attention after he was seen wearing a pair of Nigerian Army trousers. A viral video circulating on social media also showed that he allegedly had an Amotekun uniform beneath his clothing, along with several other layers of shirts, raising suspicion among residents who subsequently alerted the authorities.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Osun, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed that the suspect is in police custody and that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Osogbo for further investigation.

Ojelabi said the police are working to establish the suspect’s identity and assess his health condition, noting that preliminary observations suggested he might not be mentally stable. He, however, stressed that a thorough and discreet investigation would be carried out before any conclusions are reached.

The development comes amid heightened security concerns in parts of the South-West, with authorities intensifying surveillance and urging residents to remain vigilant while reporting suspicious movements to security agencies.
