Ruger Returns To Music After Legal Dispute With Ex-Girlfriend

Nigerian Afrobeats star Michael Adebayo, popularly known as Ruger, has announced his return to the music scene after months away from the spotlight due to a legal dispute involving a former romantic partner.

Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement released on Wednesday, his management company, Blown Boy Entertainment, disclosed that the singer had been dealing with personal challenges after his ex-partner reportedly filed a lawsuit against him, seeking compensation for alleged emotional distress and damages.

The management assured fans, popularly known as the “RU Nation,” that the legal issues are now behind the artiste and that he is fully focused on his music career once again.

“We know it’s been a while since Ruger dropped new music. For some time, Ruger was caught up in a series of personal challenges after someone he dated decided to sue him for alleged ‘emotional distress’ and ‘damages’,” the statement reads.

“That chapter is now behind him. A new chapter begins. A new energy emerges.

“Ruger is back to doing what he loves most – making music. And best believe, he has been cooking.”

The label also expressed appreciation to fans who stood by the singer during his period of silence, describing their support as invaluable throughout the difficult phase.

“We would like to sincerely thank everyone who remained patient and continued to support Ruger throughout the silence. Your loyalty and belief have meant everything,” it added.

“This summer, you can catch Ruger performing in Belgium, Málaga, Bali, Malawi and United States. August belongs to us. Stay tuned, enjoy your summer and get ready for what’s next.”

The development comes more than two years after Ruger parted ways with Jonzing World, the label that launched his career under the mentorship of D’Prince. In January 2024, the singer officially unveiled Blown Boy Entertainment, marking the beginning of his independent career.

Since his breakthrough in 2021 with hits such as Bounce and Dior, Ruger has become one of Nigeria’s most successful Afrobeats exports. His debut album, RU The World, further cemented his place in the industry, while his recent releases have continued to enjoy strong streaming numbers across Africa and beyond.

With the legal battle reportedly resolved, fans are now anticipating new music and a busy international performance schedule from the singer in the coming months.
