Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Monday returned to the Federal High Court in Kaduna as proceedings continued in the corruption case filed against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

Gatekeepers News reports that El-Rufai arrived at the court alongside officials of the anti-corruption agency and security personnel drawn from the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force.

Monday’s hearing is expected to focus on applications and legal arguments submitted by both the prosecution and the defence as the high-profile trial enters a new phase.

The ICPC is prosecuting El-Rufai over allegations of abuse of office, fraud and financial misconduct linked to projects executed during his tenure as governor of Kaduna State.

According to investigators, public funds were allegedly released for projects that were either not executed or were handled in breach of established due process.

The former governor has consistently denied the allegations, maintaining that he committed no wrongdoing while in office.

The case continues as the court considers submissions from both parties.
