Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the release of the results of the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) mop-up exercise.
Gatekeepers News reports that JAMB also announced that it has begun the ranking process that will pave the way for admissions into tertiary institutions across the country.
The mop-up examination was conducted on June 13 for candidates who were unable to sit for the main UTME despite being biometrically verified. The exercise also catered to candidates affected by technical glitches, examination irregularities, and other challenges recorded during the main examination held in April.
JAMB said the release of the mop-up results marks the conclusion of the 2026 UTME exercise and the commencement of the ranking process, during which candidates’ scores and qualifications will be considered for admission into universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and other tertiary institutions.
The examination body had earlier described the mop-up test as the final phase of the annual UTME, stressing that it was designed to ensure that all eligible candidates who encountered difficulties during the main examination were given a fair opportunity to participate.
More than two million candidates registered for the 2026 UTME, making it one of the largest editions of the examination. With the mop-up results now released, attention is expected to shift to the admission process as institutions begin considering candidates based on JAMB scores and other admission requirements.
JAMB had previously maintained the minimum admission benchmark at 150 for universities and 100 for polytechnics, monotechnics and colleges of education, while also opening its portal for candidates seeking changes of course or institution ahead of the admission season.
