National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it seized 9,488 kilograms of illicit drugs across Plateau State and secured 71 convictions in its ongoing fight against drug trafficking and abuse in the state.
Gatekeepers News reports that the agency disclosed that the seizures were made during a series of operations targeting drug dealers and traffickers operating in various parts of Plateau.
According to the agency, the confiscated substances included cannabis, cocaine, heroin, tramadol and other psychotropic drugs. NDLEA said the operations also led to the arrest of numerous suspects, many of whom are currently facing prosecution, while 71 offenders have already been convicted by the courts.
The agency noted that beyond enforcement activities, it has intensified public awareness campaigns and rehabilitation efforts aimed at reducing drug abuse, particularly among young people. It urged residents to support the fight against narcotics by providing useful information on drug-related activities in their communities.
NDLEA Chairman Buba Marwa has repeatedly stressed the need for stronger collaboration between government agencies, communities and stakeholders to curb the spread of illicit drugs and address the growing threat of substance abuse across the country.
