Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has threatened to file a N10 billion defamation lawsuit against Adeniyi Adeyemi, who has been presenting himself as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), over what he described as false and damaging allegations.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a cease-and-desist letter issued through his lawyer, Kemi Pinheiro (SAN), Gbajabiamila demanded that Adeyemi immediately withdraw all statements accusing him of corruption, bribery, abuse of office and murder.
The letter also directed Adeyemi to delete all videos and publications containing the allegations, publish a full retraction and apology in at least five national newspapers and across his social media platforms, and provide a written undertaking not to repeat the claims.
The Chief of Staff warned that Adeyemi has 72 hours to comply or face both civil and criminal legal action. The proposed civil suit seeks N10 billion in aggravated and exemplary damages, which Gbajabiamila said would be donated to charity if awarded. The legal action would also seek a perpetual injunction restraining Adeyemi from making further defamatory statements.
The dispute stems from a press conference in late June during which Adeyemi alleged that Gbajabiamila demanded huge sums of money, including N400 million through proxies, in connection with appointments linked to the PFIPC.
He also called for an investigation into the death of an intermediary and questioned the Presidency’s claim that the council does not exist despite its appearance in the 2026 budget.
Gbajabiamila’s lawyer dismissed the allegations as entirely false, malicious and unsupported by evidence, insisting that the Chief of Staff has never met or had any dealings with Adeyemi.
The letter further noted that Adeyemi is already facing criminal charges over alleged forgery and impersonation relating to the purported PFIPC appointment documents, arguing that he resorted to a “trial by media” despite the matter being before the court.
