The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has announced that it will begin enforcing provisions of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020 requiring companies to disclose details of their directors on all business letters from August 1, 2026.
Gatekeepers News reports that the commission made the announcement in a public notice issued on Wednesday, stating that the enforcement will apply to Sections 304(1) and (2) as well as 729(1)(c) of the Act.
It warned that companies that fail to comply with the requirements will face sanctions.
According to the CAC, every company registered under CAMA 2020, or under any law repealed by the Act, is required to include specific information on its business correspondence.
The Act requires company business letters to prominently display the company’s registered name, registration number and registered address. They must also include the current first names or initials and surnames of all directors, any former first names and surnames, as well as the nationality of directors who are not Nigerian citizens.
“The Commission wishes to inform the General Public, Esteemed Customers, and in particular, Companies registered under the Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020 (or any enactment repealed by the Act), that commencing the 1st day of August 2026, the Commission shall enforce the full application of the requirements of sections 304(1) & (2) and 729 (1)(c) of the Act with respect to company business letters with attendant sanctions for non-compliance,” the notice stated.
The commission further explained that companies must state, in legible characters, the present forename or initials and surname of every director, any former first name and surname, and the nationality of every director who is not a Nigerian.
It said the enforcement is aimed at promoting greater transparency, accountability and a more responsive corporate regulatory environment.
