Gunmen have abducted a principal, four students, and a National Examinations Council (NECO) ad hoc staff member during an attack on Government Secondary School (GSS), Olowa, in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Gatekeepers Newreports that the incident occurred at about 5:25 p.m. on Tuesday while candidates were sitting for the ongoing NECO examinations, according to security sources quoted by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication covering the Lake Chad region.

The attackers reportedly invaded the school premises, abducted the victims, and escaped to an undisclosed location before security operatives could respond.

Following the attack, a joint team of security personnel launched a search-and-rescue operation, deploying intelligence assets and carrying out extensive bush-combing exercises across the area to track down the kidnappers.

Sources said one of the abducted students has since been rescued, while efforts are continuing to secure the release of the remaining victims.

Security agencies have also intensified surveillance and intelligence gathering as investigations continue and operations to apprehend those behind the attack are stepped up.
