Gunmen have abducted the principal of Government Secondary School (GSS), Olowa, in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, along with four students during the ongoing National Examinations Council (NECO) examination.

Gatekeepers News reports that the attack has raised fresh concerns over the safety of schools and candidates writing public examinations in the state.

The incident occurred on Wednesday while students were sitting for their NECO papers. The attackers reportedly invaded the school premises and whisked away the principal and four candidates, causing panic among students, teachers and residents.

Security agencies have launched efforts to rescue the victims, while authorities are yet to announce any arrests in connection with the abduction. The attack is the latest in a series of kidnappings targeting schools and communities in parts of the country, despite ongoing security operations.

The incident comes amid growing calls for stronger security around schools, particularly during national examinations, to protect students, teachers and education officials from criminal attacks.
